Christoph Kellendonk, PhDPrincipal Investigator Christoph did his PhD in the laboratory of Günther Schütz at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg where he studied the function of the glucocorticoid receptor. He then joined Eric Kandel's laboratory at Columbia University in New York as a post-doctoral research fellow where he became interested in using mouse genetics to study neuropsychiatric disorders. Since 2008 Christoph is an independent investigator at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. ck491@cumc.columbia.edu

Arturo Torres Herraez, PhDResearch Scientist Arturo received his PhD from the Sorbonne Université in Paris, where he studied the interaction between the cerebellum and hippocampus as it relates to spacial navigation. He joined the Kellendonk Lab in 2019, where he now investigates the neural-circuits underlying misinterpretation of auditory information, a phenomena thought to relate to hallucinations in schizophrenia. In his free time, Arturo enjoys rock climbing, is a cinema connoisseur, and travels home to Spain to visit friends and family. at3496@cumc.columbia.edu

Joseph Villarin, MD, PhDAssistant Professor Joe is a practicing MD-PhD, who completed graduate and medical school at Columbia University. During this time he worked in the lab of Ulrich Hengst in the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain on regulation of intra-axonal transport of organelles. Joe joined the Kellendonk Lab during his residency in psychiatry, in order to learn more about translational research and mouse behavior. He now studies how the striatal-basal-OFC circuit governs reversal learning. Outside of lab you can find spending time Joe at the Central Park Zoo with his wife and kids. joseph.villarin@nyspi.columbia.edu

Daniel Lowes, PhDPostdoctoral Fellow Dan completed his PhD in Pharmacology with Dr. Alex Harris at Columbia University, where he studied the effects of VTA GABA neurons on stress-induced blunting of reward-seeking behavior. After defending in December 2021, he joined the Kellendonk Lab where he now explores the effects of coordinated DA and ACh signaling on reversal learning. Outside the lab Dan is a video game connoisseur, enjoys theater, and spends his weekends exploring NYC’s parks. dl2953@cumc.columbia.edu

Ricardo Raudales, PhDPostdoctoral Fellow Ricky trained in Josh Huang's lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where he developed genetic approaches for brainwide targeting of axo-axonic cells. Outside of lab Ricky can be found hiking, kayaking, or tinkering on a project. ricardo.raudales@nyspi.columbia.edu

Meghan Gallo, PhDPostdoctoral Research Scientist Meghan completed her PhD at Brown University studying the effects of early life adversity on reward learning and decision making under the mentorship of Kevin Bath (Columbia University), Christopher Moore and Michael Frank. She then joined Christoph Kellendonk's laboratory to study acetylcholine and dopamine dynamics governing learning under uncertainty. Her work is integrative, combining computational, behavioral, molecular and imaging methods. Behavior is her true passion: whenever she goes to a new city, she heads straight to the local zoo or aquarium. Meghan.Gallo@nyspi.columbia.edu

Isabel BravoGraduate Student Isabel attended college at UNC Chapel Hill, where she worked in the Lab of Dr. Zoe McElligott studying sex differences in opioid withdrawal syndrome. She is now a graduate student in Columbia University’s Neurobiology and Behavior Program. Her work focuses on the impacts of thalamo-prefrontal circuit activity on cognitive flexibility across development. Outside of lab Isabel cultivates her collection of plants, loves teaching her parrot new tricks, and is a former collegiate fencer. imb2137@cumc.columbia.edu

Shirley Yuqi CaiGraduate Student Shirley graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked in the labs of Dr. Deanna Barch and Dr. Erik Musiek. Her research focused on identifying risk factors for adolescent depression and on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in mice. Before starting her Neuroscience PhD training at Columbia University, she worked in Dr. Dennis Selkoe's lab at Harvard, developing biomarkers for early Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. In the Kellendonk lab, she now investigates the neuronal mechanisms and circuitry underlying auditory hallucinations. Outside the lab, Shirley enjoys reading, playing guitar and the erhu, and trying out new restaurants with friends yc4338@cumc.columbia.edu

Adeline ChoiAdeline received her B.A. at Williams College studying developmental neuroscience and its implication in clinical psychology. Her undergraduate research experience spans from molecular and synthetic biochemistry (with Dr. B Thuronyi) to neuroethology (with Dr. Charlotte Barkan). As a CADRE post-baccalaureate scholar in the Kellendonk Lab, Adeline studies neurocircuitry underlying auditory hallucination under the mentorship of Dr. Arturo Torres Herraez. Outside the lab Adeline loves playing the violin, visiting art museums, and rewatching Game of Thrones.
